ABOUT THE GALLERY
Daedalus Gallery displays the work of Jacqueline Carcagno and William Weyman permanently. We were originally based in Savannah and now have the gallery open in Asheville, North Carolina. We, at Daedalus Gallery, strive to show only works of art which exhibit the integrity of form, which is to say, the organic unity of the whole where form and content are one. What we offer is works of art which are worthy of contemplation. A painting or drawing should reveal more than what first meets the eye. If a chosen work happens to fit the criterion of a decorative piece, so much the better, but we want it to embody the greater criteria which make it a work of art.
The Gallery is the dream of two painters with a full European background in arts-- William Weyman, an American who co-founded the Leo Marchutz School of Art in Aix-en-Provence on the campus grounds of Cezanne's famed "Chateau Noir" studio, and Jacqueline Carcagno, a French neo-Impressionist painter from Avignon, Provence. The gallery offers original works of art worthy of contemplation. A painting or drawing should reveal more than what first catches the eye. REMEMBERING WILLIAM WEYMAN'S LEGACY.
In connection with this definition of form we would add that there exists a philosophical link between Daedalus Gallery and The Leo Marchutz School of Art, in Aix-en-Provence. Both the gallery and the school hold to the conviction that there is a common language of art which is at once traditional and modern. It is both because the integrity of form is not an option in art, it is a defining principle, and is therefore timeless.

"In classical mythology, Daedalus is a craftsman who is known for building a labyrinth for King Minos to hold a beast called the minotaur. In trying to escape the labyrinth, Daedalus made wings for himself and his son, Icarus. As they tried to escape the labyrinth, Icarus flew too close to the sun and melted the wax on his wings causing him to fall out of the sky. The story of Daedalus showcases the developments, motivations, and philosophies of the artist. It allows us to understand the trials and tribulations that creative people endure and also sheds light on motivations behind an artist’s work."
